Song of the Week: “Forever Right Here” by Jphono1

by Douglas Cowie on 1 March 2013

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

Here’s “Forever Right Here” by Jphono1 (link takes you to the Jphono1 bandcamp page):

“Forever Right Here” — Jphono1

This song comes from Jphono1’s new release, Know Your Clouds, which I reviewed recently here. What I like about it is the playful lilt of those electronic beats that slowly become overwhelmed but never quite disappear in the face of that growing feedback drone.  I also like that none of the instruments on this song is doing anything spectacular, but their interplay creates music way bigger than the sum of their parts.  Is it a wicked world? The question never gets answered, but if I can live forever right here, with banjos and guitars and electronic bloo … bleep-bleeps and slow expansive drums then I guess it can’t be all that evil.
