Song of the Week: “Lysol” by Butcher Brown

by Douglas Cowie on 29 December 2017

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

This is “Lysol” by Butcher Brown:

One of my Christmas presents was Live at the Vagabond, an album by the Richmond, Virginia band Butcher Brown. I didn’t know anything about them until I dropped the needle on side A.

Turns out they’re a jazz-funk outfit that really knows how to groove. Though jazz-funk sells them a bit short. They move around a lot within that definition. Anyway, I’ve only had a chance to listen to the album twice so far, but I’ll be listening to it a lot more in the weeks to come, and keeping an eye out to see if they head to my side of the pond in 2018, because I’d definitely like to listen to them live.
