Song of the Week: “Somebody Stole My Thunder” by Georgie Fame

by Douglas Cowie on 12 May 2017

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

This is “Somebody Stole My Thunder” by Georgie Fame:

This song just wants to have a good time. Personally, I’m glad somebody stole Georgie Fame’s thunder, because if he still had his thunder, this song might become unbearably fun.  I love the slightly offhand delivery of the vocals here, and the lyrics are witty without being smug. The busy guitar and organ parts are held down by that great groove and the horns punctuate everything with a variety of interventions. I could listen to this kind of thing all day. I might just bug the party line.
